Football Betting: 1X2, Goals Markets and Jackpot Picks

Football fills more betting slips than any other sport, and it is also the sport behind most multi-match jackpots. This page follows a single matchday from the first look at the fixtures to the final whistle, and explains which football markets you are likely to see if the iLOTBet sportsbook is available on your account. The examples use Kenyan shillings; the exact markets, limits and prices are set by the operator and can only be confirmed in the account.

Before kick-off: the three-way market

The 1X2 market is football's foundation: 1 is a home win, X is a draw and 2 is an away win. The draw is what makes football different from tennis or basketball. Three outcomes leave more room for error, and the draw is the hardest of them to call, so in an evenly matched game its price deserves as much attention as the other two. Double chance covers two of the three outcomes at once (1X, X2 or 12) at a shorter price, and draw no bet removes the draw by refunding the stake if the match finishes level.

A useful habit before any 1X2 bet: convert the three prices into percentages by dividing one by each decimal price, and ask whether you really disagree with the bookmaker. If you cannot say why your view differs, the bet is a guess with a margin attached.

Markets you will meet most often

MarketWhat you predictSettled on
1X2Home win, draw or away winScore after 90 minutes plus stoppage time
Double chanceTwo of the three outcomesSame as 1X2, shorter price
Over/under 2.5 goalsThree or more goals, or two or fewerTotal goals in normal time
Both teams to scoreEach side scores at least onceNormal time only
Asian handicapResult after a goal start or deficitHalf and quarter lines can refund part of the stake
Correct scoreThe exact final scoreNormal time; long prices, low hit rate

Extra time and penalty shoot-outs are normally excluded from these markets unless the market name says otherwise. That rule sits in the operator's betting rules, and it matters in cup matches: a team that wins on penalties did not win the 1X2 market.

Goals markets: totals and both teams to score

Totals let you bet on the shape of a game instead of its winner. Over/under 2.5 goals is the standard line, with 1.5 and 3.5 alongside it. Both teams to score (BTTS) asks a narrower question: will each side find the net at least once? Totals reward reading styles: a side that presses high and concedes chances is a different proposition from one that sits deep and waits. Team news matters more here than in the 1X2 market, because one missing striker or goalkeeper can change the expected number of goals more than it changes the expected winner.

Handicaps when the favourite is too short

When a strong side is priced at 1.20, backing it to win teaches you very little and pays even less. A handicap line such as โˆ’1.5 asks it to win by two or more goals at a longer price. Asian handicap lines in quarter steps split the stake between two neighbouring lines, so part of the bet can be refunded or half-won. Read the settlement example in the rules before using quarter lines for the first time; they are easy to misread under time pressure.

Jackpot picks: football as a lottery ticket

Multi-match jackpots are usually built on football fixtures. Every match on the list needs a 1, X or 2, and the whole ticket must be right to share the top prize. The draw is where most jackpot tickets fail: evenly matched games on a long list make it statistically likely that at least a few will end level. If the iLOTBet sportsbook offers a jackpot, its rules decide how many matches are on the list, what happens when a match is postponed and how the pool is split. Our bet types guide shows how quickly the number of possible tickets grows.

In-play: what moves the price

Because goals are rare, each one reshapes the live market. Prices are suspended for a few seconds around goals, penalties, red cards and video reviews, then reopen at new levels. Between goals, the draw shortens steadily as the clock runs down and totals markets drift towards the under. Live betting suits people who are actually watching: a team that dominates without scoring can be priced more generously at minute 60 than it was before kick-off. Cash out is offered on many in-play bets, but the value always includes a margin.

Staking a matchday in shillings

A practical plan for a weekend: decide the total amount first, say KSh 500, and divide it into units of KSh 50 so that no single result can ruin the weekend. Kenyan law sets the minimum online stake at 20 shillings, so very small units are possible on a licensed platform. Fund only that amount, for example through M-Pesa or Airtel Money if the cashier lists them, and keep the rest of your money outside the betting wallet. When the units are gone, the matchday is over.
